Last night I had a dream
About R.L. Burnside
We were drinking two small whiskeys
And watching the TV
It was Check & Double-Check
Amos and Andy
And he laughed like that old movie
Was the funniest he’d seen

When R.L. Burnside was a boy
In North Mississippi
He would ride his bike to Memphis
Just to see the picture show
And when he’d ride on home
He’d watch for those night riders
And hide out in the bushes
When some headlines came along

Not near often enough
Do I dream of R.L. Burnside
And when I do we’re drinking whiskey
Or maybe having beers
And R.L. tells me about the world
And the way he likes to see it
And every time I wake up
I wish R.L. Burnside was still here
